Between you
and nobody else.
Messages, calls, photos and places travel securely from your phone to theirs, locked the whole way. Every message has its own key. No phone number, no email, no ads.
#COMMS
For the first time, people can talk freely without anyone standing in between. Not a server that keeps copies, not a company that reads along.
Communications at the highest level of security: every message sealed on its own, every conversation protected against quantum computers, every call straight from phone to phone.
In other apps, every photo you've ever sent is still sitting in a data centre somewhere. Not with us.
The best-known messengers keep copies of what you share, around the clock, in buildings that need power to run and water to stay cool. #COMMS sends photos, videos and calls straight from phone to phone. There is no archive of your life to power, cool or back up.
Estimate. A 100-million-person messenger at the electricity and water per person reported for the data centres of the company behind the best-known messenger (14.98 TWh and 3.9 billion litres for 3.19 billion daily users, 2023), with the world's average 480 g CO₂ per kWh (Ember, 2023) and 22 kg CO₂ absorbed per tree each year. #COMMS still runs a small relay of its own, hence "up to".
Your data is
not for sale.
The companies behind other messengers make their living from data: who you know, what you like, where you go, all of it turned into advertising. #COMMS shows no ads and keeps no advertising profile of you, so there is nothing to sell, to anyone, ever.
Calm, square, and entirely yours.
A chat that feels quiet and clear. Your words in our accent colour, theirs in plain type, reactions in square tiles and places as a compass, never a map that watches.
Sealed where it starts. Opened where it ends.
Sealed on your phone
Every message is locked on your phone with a key only the other phone can open. It leaves already sealed.
Carried, never opened
#COMMS only passes along a sealed envelope that it has no way to open. What's inside stays between the two of you.
Opened only on theirs
Photos, videos, voice notes and calls don't even take that route: they go straight from one phone to the other.
Four decisions we made so you don't have to take our word for it.
Every message has its own key.
Each message is locked with a fresh key made only for it, and that key is destroyed the moment the message arrives. Every message is sealed on its own, and stays that way.
Ready for quantum computers.
Every conversation begins with two locks at once: proven elliptic-curve cryptography, and ML-KEM, the new post-quantum standard. Both would have to be broken. A message recorded today stays sealed even against the quantum computers of tomorrow.
Your twelve words are born on your phone.
They are created on your phone and never sent anywhere: not to us, not to anyone. They are the only way back into your account on a new phone, which is exactly why only you should hold them.
Why we're not in the app stores.
A store would put an account, its own records and its own services between you and the app. Talking privately shouldn't require any of that, so #COMMS comes straight from us to your phone.
And it stays honest on its own: every update is checked on your phone twice. It must carry the very same signature as the app you already have, and match the official release exactly, down to the last byte. If either differs, it simply isn't installed.
Nobody you don't know can bother you.
There is no number for anyone to guess or buy. A stranger can't write to you or call you; they can only ask to connect, once, and you decide. Turn off being findable and even that stops. Block someone, and they're gone for good.
Only for the
Special Ones.
The people you talk to here are the ones you chose. Not a crowd, not a feed, not a list of strangers: a circle you invite, one by one, because they matter to you.
- Your circle, never a crowd.
- Invited by you, never found by chance.
- Signed with a pattern nobody else in the world has.
A face made of your key.
Instead of a profile photo, everyone on #COMMS gets a pattern drawn from their own encryption key. Nothing to upload, and no two alike. If someone's pattern ever changes, you'll see it at a glance.
Everything a conversation needs. Nothing it doesn't.
Voice and video calls
Straight between the two phones. The earpiece by default, the speaker when you want it.
Groups of up to 20
Group chats and group calls, sealed separately for every member.
Places, your way
An exact spot to meet, an area about a kilometre wide, or a live position that stops by itself.
Reactions drawn for #COMMS
Press and hold a message: eight square reactions, in our own two colours.
Link cards made by you
Your phone prepares the preview and sends it sealed, so the people you share with never touch the site.
Twelve words bring it back
On a new phone, your contacts and groups return with twelve words that only you keep.
You pick a username. That's who you are on #COMMS, and nothing more.
Three steps, then just talk.
Download
Get the app from this page. Android may ask you once to allow installs from your browser; that's normal for apps outside the stores.
Pick a username
No number, no email. Write down your twelve words and keep them somewhere safe.
Invite someone
Send an invite to their username. Once they accept, everything between you is yours alone.
What people ask before they start.
Can #COMMS read my messages?
No. Your messages are sealed on your phone and can only be opened on the phone of the person you send them to. We never have the keys, so there is nothing for us to read.
Are my calls protected too?
Yes. Voice and video calls are encrypted from end to end and go directly between the two phones. Group calls are encrypted for every person in them.
Is it safe to install an app from outside an app store?
Yes, when it is signed and checked. Every #COMMS update must carry the same signature as the app on your phone and match the official release exactly, or it is not installed.
Do I need a phone number or an email?
No. You choose a username and that is all. Nobody needs your number to reach you, and you never have to share it.
How do I find the people I want to talk to?
Share your username with them, or send an invite to theirs. Once the invite is accepted, you can write, call and share right away.
Can strangers message me?
No. Someone you don't know can only ask to connect, and nothing reaches you unless you accept. You can also turn off being findable, or block anyone at any time.
What happens if I lose or change my phone?
Install #COMMS on the new phone and enter your twelve words. Your contacts and groups come back. Keep the twelve words somewhere safe, because they are the only way back.
Is #COMMS free?
There is one small, one-time payment when you sign up, and that is all. No monthly or yearly fee, no hidden costs, ever. Why pay at all? Because a small fee keeps out the people who would open endless fake accounts to spam and scam. It also lets #COMMS run without ads and without selling anything about you: a fair price for a service that respects you.
Does it work on iPhone?
Not yet. #COMMS runs on Android 8 and newer, including phones without Google services.
Why is #COMMS always on my screen?
#COMMS doesn't use Google's notification service. To receive messages and calls even when the app is closed, it keeps its own connection open at all times. On Android 8 and newer, every app that keeps running in the background must show a notification. Without it, Android closes the connection within a few minutes; then messages don't arrive and calls don't ring. Apps that use Google don't need this permanent notification, because Google's own service keeps the connection for them. For your security and privacy, #COMMS uses its own encrypted, private notification service.
Can I send photos, videos and documents?
Yes, in chats and in groups, along with voice notes, reactions, link cards and places.
Can I make group calls?
Yes. Groups have up to 20 people for chatting, and group voice calls work for up to 6 at once.
Which languages does it speak?
Fifteen, including English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic and Turkish. You can switch at any time in Settings.
